Privacy Policy
Effective · Last updated · Applies to danawhitakerbooks.com
Dana Whitaker is an author published by Both Homes Press (“we,” “us”). This page explains, in plain language, what information this website collects, why, and what choices you have. If anything here is unclear, contact us through the contact page or at privacy@bothhomespress.com.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Email address — when you sign up for the free Pre-Send Checklist, the weekly email, or a book notification. That is the only information the signup form asks for.
- Contact messages — when you use the contact form, we receive your name, email address, the topic you choose, and your message, so we can reply.
Information collected automatically
- Basic technical data — like most websites, our hosting provider records standard server information (such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited) to keep the site secure and working.
- Privacy-respecting measurement — we may use simple, aggregate analytics to understand which pages are useful. This site does not use third-party advertising trackers and does not build advertising profiles about you.
How we use it
- To send you the checklist you asked for and, if you subscribed, one email a week.
- To reply to messages you send us.
- To announce new books from Dana Whitaker or Both Homes Press, if you subscribed.
- To keep the site secure and improve it.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
Email, specifically
- Signup is double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm from your inbox.
- Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing is immediate and needs no explanation.
- Our email is managed on systems we operate (Mautic) and delivered through Amazon's email service (Amazon SES). Your address is stored only for the purpose you gave it.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers, only for the jobs described here:
- Vercel — website hosting.
- Amazon Web Services (Amazon SES) — email delivery.
- Purelymail — our mailbox provider for correspondence.
- Podcast and book platforms (for example Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and Amazon) — if you listen or buy there, that platform's own privacy policy applies to what it collects.
How long we keep it
- Email subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your address.
- Contact messages: as long as needed to handle your message and keep a reasonable record of the correspondence.
- Server logs: kept for a limited period for security, then deleted or anonymized.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you may ask us to: tell you what information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop emailing you. Contact us through the contact page or at privacy@bothhomespress.com and we will act on your request promptly. If your local law (for example in the EU/UK or California) gives you additional rights, we honor them.
Children
This site is written for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us an email address, contact us and we will delete it.
Safety note
Please do not send us personal details about your children, your co-parent, or an ongoing court case — by email or through the contact form. This site cannot provide individual advice. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency number; support organizations are listed on our Safety & Support Resources page.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update this page and note the new date at the top. Subscribers will be told about significant changes by email.
